Jesus never promised His disciples that following Him would be easy. In Matthew 10:16–23, He sends His followers into a hostile world with a striking warning: “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves.”
The disciples would face opposition, rejection, persecution, and even betrayal. Yet Jesus did not tell them to retreat, compromise, or become like the wolves around them. Instead, they were to remain faithful—wise as serpents, innocent as doves, dependent upon the Spirit, and enduring to the end.
In this message, “Sheep Among Wolves,” we walk through Jesus’ instructions to His disciples and consider what they mean for Christians today.
Following Christ may bring opposition. Faithfulness may carry a cost. The world may not always welcome the message we have been given. But Jesus has already told us what to expect—and He has promised to be with His people as they faithfully bear witness to Him.
Main Idea:
Christ sends His people into a hostile world—not to become like the wolves, nor to hide from them, but to faithfully represent Him in the midst of them.
